In Memory of Greg Hyer

A man of character and integrity, Greg also believed in spiritual capitalism: that “integrity and commitment are just as important to a business as efficiency and profitability. It’s important to take into consideration how the decisions of a business affect the world at a macro and micro level.”

The social media marketing community mourns one of their own today. Gregory Michael Hyer, Jr., 39, passed away on Thursday, August 16, 2018. The impact of his sudden death will be felt by many for years to come. Greg Hyer is remembered by coworkers and those he trained as a joy and pleasure to work with, always passionate about what he did.

Bob Walton, Realtor®, and former internet marketer, who traveled among many of the same networking and marketing training circles says, “Greg was a giant in the local and LinkedIn communities. He will be most sorely missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to Greg’s family.

Greg’s experience with a number of sales and marketing organizations early in his career, as well as with retailers where he was part of significant marketing pilot programs, gave him a passion for the art of digital marketing & social selling and what it could accomplish for businesses large and small.

Greg believed it is important for business owners and digital marketers to see that social selling is about opening, not closing. His vision for digital marketing was “creating experiences, not clicks.” He saw the opportunity for sales professionals to create deeper, smarter relationships with customers, to become trusted advisors who help buyer’s navigate the buying journey and enable them to make confident buying decisions.

A man of character and integrity, Greg also believed in spiritual capitalism: that “integrity and commitment are just as important to a business as efficiency and profitability. It’s important to take into consideration how the decisions of a business affect the world at a macro and micro level.

In 2009 Greg started Linking into Sales with co-owner and friend Martin Brossman, who shared the vision of helping sales professionals understand social selling and achieve powerful business results with integrity. The company offers social selling and digital marketing training online, in the classroom, and 1-on-1.

Greg was also known as a LinkedIn expert, and in 2010 he co-authored the popular Linking Into Sales – Using LinkedIn to Support the Sales Cycle, which walks sales professionals through establishing a social selling routine on LinkedIn. Since 2011, Greg has also co-hosted “The Social Selling Podcast” where his sense of humor and passion shines through.

While Greg was a driven entrepreneur, continuously pushing boundaries and working to better himself, he was also a fun-loving man whose passion for the family he cherished was obvious; coaching their baseball teams and cheerleading for their soccer, volleyball, and dance teams. He was devoted to his wife, Jessie, and very active in the lives of his five children. It is they who will feel Greg’s loss most.

A GoFundMe page has been setup to help Greg’s family as they navigate this tragedy and move forward in life without him. Donations will go directly to his wife, Jessie Hyer, to help with end of life costs and future expenses. Please consider helping Greg’s loved ones through this difficult time.

Funeral service, August 24 in Clayton, NC (see obituary here)

NC Research Triangle is a Hot Market for Business, Jobs & Commercial Real Estate

Bob Walton, with ROI Commercial Realty, explained that the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area is projected to double in population growth in the next 10-15 years. “Properties are increasing in price but remain a value, especially if an investor is looking to buy and hold rentals.”

Raleigh, United States – August 16, 2018 /PressCable/ —

Across the nation, Raleigh and North Carolina’s Research Triangle region are being recognized as great places to live and work. U.S. News and World Report ranked Raleigh and Durham 13th on their 2018 list of the best places to live. CardRates.com chose Raleigh as one of 10 cities primed for economic growth and opportunity in 2018, “The area is also a hotbed for biotech research …”

North Carolina’s Triangle is home to some business powerhouses, including Red Hat, CISCO, SAS, MetLife, and IBM. Businesses flourish in The Triangle because of the diversity of industries that co-exist there, including technology, advanced manufacturing, and life sciences. It is also one of the 12 cities that currently have Google Fiber service, which provides internet connection speed that is roughly 100 times faster than that available to most Americans.

Bob Walton, realtor with ROI Commercial Realty, explained that the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area is projected to double in population growth in the next 10-15 years. “Properties are increasing in price but remain a value, especially if an investor is looking to buy and hold rentals or is considering commercial ventures. The facts stack up well.”

The facts that Walton referred to include that four Triangle counties are among the state’s fastest growing since 2010, “led by Wake at 16.2 percent and followed by Chatham at 13.8 percent, Durham at 13.4 percent and Johnston at 13.3 percent.”

For businesses in the region, there is a continuing supply of college graduates and plenty of affordable office space and housing. The Triangle is home to some of the nation’s top-ranked colleges and universities, including Duke, UNC-Chapel Hill, and North Carolina State University.

An article in WRAL TechWire showed that “the Raleigh-Durham market offers [office space] rates lower than all but four of the 19 U.S. metro areas being considered by Amazon.” MarketWatch included Raleigh as one of the top 10 cities for new graduates. Forbes put The Research Triangle at the top of its 2018 list of the best places to rent, “Reasonably priced apartments, coupled with strong population growth and ample employment opportunities.”

Is it any wonder companies like Amazon and Apple have their eyes focused on the region for investment? WalkWest’s Kierstin Geary wrote, “This is a ridiculously attractive place for all walks of life and for businesses of all kinds.” Katie Couric, well-known TV journalist with the National Geographic Channel, said “Raleigh is a very progressive, welcoming community in many ways.” Even the Marriott Traveler recognized the vitality and growth of Raleigh and The Triangle, “Downtown Raleigh especially has expanded by leaps and bounds in recent years, with forward-thinking startups and co-working spaces opening next to government buildings …”
